SMTP settings

Use your exact dedicated relay hostname. Shared IP plans are only available to customers in Denmark.

Set up Scan to Email on HP LaserJet / OfficeJet / PageWide

1

Open the printer Embedded Web Server

Print a network configuration page from the printer control panel to find its IP address. Enter the IP in a browser on the same network (for example, http://192.168.1.50). Log in with the printer admin password if prompted.
2

Navigate to Scan to Email settings

Go to Scan > Scan to Email > Outgoing Email Profiles (or Email Setup on some models). The exact path varies by firmware.
3

Add or edit an outgoing email profile

Click Add or select the default profile. Enter a profile name (for example, mySMTP).
4

Enter the SMTP server details

Enter your mySMTP relay hostname in the SMTP Server field. Set the port to 587.
5

Enable encryption

If the printer offers a Use TLS/SSL or Require TLS checkbox, enable it. On some models this is labeled Enable SMTP over TLS.
6

Enter authentication

Enable SMTP Authentication (or Use authentication). Enter your mySMTP username and password.
7

Set the sender address

In the From or Default From Address field, enter an email address on a domain authenticated for your mySMTP account.
8

Save and test

Save the profile and send a test scan to your own email address. Check your inbox and spam folder.

HP Smart app note

The HP Smart mobile and desktop app lets you scan and send from your computer or phone, but it uses HP’s cloud relay by default. If you want the printer itself to send directly through mySMTP, configure the profile in the EWS as described above. You can still use HP Smart to scan to a file and then send the file from your email client.

Troubleshooting

Some older HP firmware does not support STARTTLS. Switch to port 2525 and disable TLS. Check HP’s support site for a firmware update.
Re-enter your mySMTP username and password. Make sure the printer is not adding spaces after the password.
Confirm the From address uses a domain authenticated on your mySMTP account.
Large scans may exceed the attachment limit. Reduce the resolution or use color/grayscale settings that produce smaller files. See Email Attachments Size.
