Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce can send transactional emails through mySMTP using the built-in SMTP transport, available in version 2.4.7 and above, or a third-party SMTP module for earlier versions.

Prerequisites

SMTP settings

Shared IP plans are only available to customers in Denmark.

Native SMTP configuration (Magento 2.4.7+)

1

Open Mail Sending Settings

Log in to the Magento admin panel. Go to Stores → Configuration → Advanced → System.
2

Expand Mail Sending Settings

Scroll to Mail Sending Settings. Open the section and set Transport to SMTP.
3

Enter mySMTP host and port

Fill in the fields:
  • SMTP Host: your real mySMTP hostname (from your setup email)
  • SMTP Port: 587
4

Enable authentication

Set Authentication to Login and enter:
  • Username: your mySMTP username
  • Password: your mySMTP password
5

Save and flush cache

Click Save Config in the top right. Then go to System → Cache Management and click Flush Magento Cache.
Menu names can vary slightly between Magento versions. If you do not see SMTP options under Mail Sending Settings, check that you are running Magento 2.4.7 or later.

For versions older than 2.4.7

Magento versions before 2.4.7 do not include a built-in SMTP transport. Install a well-maintained third-party SMTP extension from the Magento Marketplace, then enter the same host, port, username, and password shown in the table above. Always choose an extension from a reputable vendor and keep it updated.

Set store email addresses

Make sure the addresses Magento uses as senders are on your authenticated domain.
1

Open Store Email Addresses

In the Magento admin panel, go to Stores → Configuration → General → Store Email Addresses.
2

Set sender addresses

Update the addresses for General Contact, Sales Representative, Customer Support, and Custom Email 1/2 to use your verified domain (for example, sales@yourdomain.com and support@yourdomain.com).
3

Save changes

Click Save Config.
Using a default address like example.com or an unauthenticated domain can cause mail to be rejected or filtered by mailbox providers.

Send a test email

Go to Stores → Configuration → Advanced → System → Mail Sending Settings (or your third-party SMTP extension test page) and send a test email to an address you control. Confirm it arrives and shows the correct sender domain.

Troubleshooting

This means your Magento version is older than 2.4.7. Use a reputable third-party SMTP extension instead.
Double-check your real mySMTP hostname, port 587, and TLS selection. If your server firewall blocks 587, try port 2525.
Verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records are set up correctly. See DNS settings quick explainer and SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and BIMI explained.
Run the Sender Readiness Checklist and Email Header Analyzer in the mySMTP Deliverability Toolbox.
Confirm that the address under Store Email Addresses matches the authenticated domain in mySMTP. Mismatched domains hurt deliverability.
