Many cameras have limited TLS support, so test different ports and security options if needed.

SMTP settings

Many cameras and NVRs only support SSL on port 465, or no TLS at all. If STARTTLS on 587 does not work, try port 2525 or disable encryption and use port 25 if your device requires it.
Server (shared IP, DK only) | mail.mysmtp.com / Shared IP plans are only available to customers in Denmark.

Configuring your camera or NVR

1

Open the email settings

Log in to the camera or NVR web interface. Go to Configuration > Network > Advanced Settings > Email.
2

Enable SMTP and SSL/TLS

  1. Enter your relay hostname in SMTP server.
  2. Set SMTP port to 587.
  3. Check Enable SSL/TLS and select STARTTLS if available; otherwise try TLS.
  4. Enable SMTP Authentication.
  5. Enter your mySMTP username and password.
3

Set sender and receivers

  1. Sender address: the address the alerts should appear from (must be a verified domain).
  2. Receivers (Receiver 1-3): the email addresses that should receive alerts.
4

Configure the event linkage

  1. Go to the event settings for the relevant camera or channel.
  2. Under Linkage Method, check Send Email.
  3. Save the settings and trigger a test event (e.g. motion) to verify delivery.

Snapshot attachments

Snapshot images and video clips can make emails very large. Large attachments may be rejected by the receiving server or slow down delivery. Reduce the image resolution or disable attachments if alerts are not arriving.

Troubleshooting

Some cameras block port 587. Try port 2525 instead, or disable encryption and use port 25 if the device does not support TLS.
If the camera only supports SSL on port 465, mySMTP does not support that mode. Try disabling encryption and using port 2525, or upgrade the device firmware if a newer version supports STARTTLS.
The attachment may be too large. Reduce the snapshot resolution or disable the snapshot option in the event linkage settings.
Make sure the sender email uses a domain authenticated for your mySMTP account. See DNS settings quick explainer.
